Biographie

Acclaimed for her “mysterious and fascinating charisma” (American Record Guide) and “captivating fantasy and freshness” (The Strad), Maya Levy is a winner of numerous prestigious awards at Stockholm and Grumiaux Competitions, “Supernova 2017” prize at the Klara Festival and the title of a laureate at the Karol Szymanowski Competition in 2018.

She has collaborated with many prominent conductors and orchestras, including The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, L’Orchestre Symphonique de Namur, The Chamber Orchestra of Waterloo, The Chamber Orchestra of Mechelen, Prima la Musica Orchestra,  Artès Chamber Orchestra, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, The Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie… Performing in venues such as the NOSPR Concert Hall in Poland, Teatro dell Aquila in Italy, Flagey Studio 4 in Brussels, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, De Bijloke in Ghent, the Vlaams Opera in Gent, De Singel in Antwerp, the Royal Theater of La Monnaie, The Philharmonie in Liège, Tchaikosvky Conservatory in Moscow and the Recanati Hall in Tel Aviv.

Maya is a regular guest at festivals such as the Les Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad (Switzerland), Podium Jonge Musici, Jugend Musiziert (Germany), Les sommets du Classique (Switzerland), Festival Musical de Lasne, Musicales en Côte Chalonnaise (France), L’été Mosan Festival, Klarafestival, Festival Musiq’3,…

Next season begins with a Belgian tour of Sibelius violin concerto and brings her to Berlin and Vilnius for recital debuts.

Since 2013, Maya Levy and pianist Matthieu Idmtal have formed a duo, and have been performing and recording on a regular basis ever since. Last seasons, they were invited to play in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Nederlands, Switzerland and Russia.

At the end of 2016 they released their first album devoted to the complete violin sonatas of Edvard Grieg with the « Pavane  Records » label. ( Classica Magazine, La Libre Belgique, Klara’s top 10, “An Intoxicating exhilarating recording of lesser-known Grieg” – The Strad Magazine).

Maya is a dedicated chamber musician and, among other chamber music activities, she has been the violinist of the « Trio Carlo Van Neste » since 2014, which is composed of Karin Lechner (pianist) and Alexandre Debrus (cellist). The trio recently made an acclaimed CD-recording of Felix Mendelssohn’s two piano trio’s, for the label « Pavane Records ».

Born in 1997 to French and Belgian parents, Maya Levy started playing the violin at the age of 4 under the guidance of Bernadette Jansen. Later on she has continued her studies with Igor Tkatchouk and since 2013, she has been working with the eminent Russian pedagogue Boris Kuschnir, in Vienna.

She has in the meantime attended the masterclasses of many renowned teachers such as Augustin Dumay, Pavel Vernikov, Itamar Golan, Renaud Capuçon, Miriam Fried and Leonidas Kavakos.
